Vinayak Kagalkar & Mike Blandina | Snowflake Summit 2026
In this interview from Snowflake Summit 2026, Mike Blandina, chief information officer of Snowflake, joins Vinayak Kagalkar, senior vice president, global chief information officer and chief technology officer of Clover, to talk with theCUBE's Dave Vellante and Rebecca Knight about how the CIO role is being reshaped by AI-native development and the cultural challenge of organizational transformation. Blandina outlines Snowflake's internal-first philosophy — his team builds AI capabilities directly on the Data Cloud, and the approaches that prove out internally become product features. He recounts building a full pricing and billing system in five weekend sessions using Snowflake's CoCo coding tool, producing 60 entities, a complete React front end, all APIs and a full batch process — then challenging his team to demo theirs alongside his. Snowflake has also compressed its agile sprint cycle from three weeks to one, a shift Blandina describes as initially shocking but now broadly embraced.
The conversation also explores the human side of AI adoption, where both leaders agree that culture, not technology, is the harder problem. Kagalkar notes that Clover — which processes $330 billion in gross payment volume across roughly one million merchants in 12 countries — has seen SDLC processes that once took two to three weeks collapse to half a day. He describes how Clover's eight-year Snowflake partnership began as a mission to bring enterprise-grade analytics to SMBs and how that same data foundation now underpins a growing suite of AI-driven business insight agents. Blandina frames resistance to AI as a recurring pattern in technology history — from CASE tools and 4GL languages to low-code platforms — and argues that the path forward starts with measuring behavior before measuring outcomes. From compressing sprints to coaching skeptical engineers, both leaders offer a practical playbook for organizations navigating the cultural and technical complexity of becoming AI-native.
