Preparing for a CROSS COUNTRY road trip in my Ford Pinto (3,000 miles!)
One of the biggest benefits to modernizing my 1980 Ford Pinto is I trust it enough now to travel across the country (From Texas to Michigan and back) in it! But before we head out there are a few things I need to take care of first.
The first thing I need to take care of is a basic oil change. While I'm taking care of the old dump and pump I'll inspect the running gear and front suspension.
I noticed the sway bar links are clattering quite a bit these days so I'll need to take care of that!
Next I'll need to swap out the carpet in my Pinto. The original carpet is totally shot from years of abuse.
I'll take advantage of having the carpet out of the car and re-route the power wire to my EFI fuel pump. I ran the wire outside of the car in a hasty decision, and while it hasn't presented me with any troubles I'd feel better if it was inside the car and safe from bumps and snags (especially while out on the open road!).
The weather stripping is in terrible shape as well. I'll need to replace that as well in order to be not driven completely insane by the constant squeaking and chirping.
Here are the tools I'm using in this video:
Green Flashlight: https://www.monstermobiletools.com/product/monster-mobile%E2%84%A0-foldable-swivel-work-light-10w-cob-led-600-lumens-mst6173a/
Solderning clamp: https://www.opentip.com/search.php?cPath=33582&products_id=11573885
Automatic Wire Strippers: https://amzn.to/2VizUuN (mine are "MAC tools" but these are pretty close maybe even the same manufacturer)
