Industrial grade rubber fairy lights for cities
A typical set of industrial grade Christmas lights, as used on trees, lamp posts and frames around your city at Christmas. This set has an annoyingly different plug format to most others, which means it requires their specific adapters and accessories.
These cluster lights are perfect for spiralling around a lamp post to give a nice sparkly band around the post (well above public reach) without a need for a complicated frame.
These operate directly at mains voltage with just a rectifier and no smoothing. The number of LEDs and resistors per section will vary with the local voltage. They are extendable to significant lengths, but I do recommend using multiple circuits to minimise loss of lights when a failure occurs.
Unlike the usual cheap lights sold to the public, these expensive sets are made to a much higher standard. They have thick rubber cable, and the LEDs are potted into little cups with clear resin.
That makes them very tough and weather resilient.
The downside is that the LEDs still degrade over time, and in the early days the fade was significant over just a few seasons.
I recommend using low voltage lights at ground level where the public can touch them. This used to be a standard thing in the industry, but now with lots of "event companies" jumping on the bandwagon and using unskilled labour, safety seems to be taking second place to profit.
A child being electrocuted by badly installed public Christmas lights would be tragic.
For those who do actually care, the same style of lights are available with 24V power supplies.

This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's algorithm quirks, allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.
