How to help Junior developers grow

Sadek's and Emma's thoughts on how to help junior developers in their first professional experience:
01:28 - Mentorship: to help make the switch from doing development at university vs. in real life. Emma felt like having a degree in software development prepares for interviews but not practical skills.
03:00 - Lack of Basic knowledge: for those who did not study Software Development, the issue might be different. They know how to build things, but are lacking fundamental concepts: data structures, algorithms. While most technical interviews are about this, even if it's not something that you'll need necessarily as a frontend developer.
03:42 - Technical interviews: Most interviews for frontend development are essentially testing your memory more than your logic with questions about "how to balance a binary tree" while it's not what you're be doing as a Junior Web Developer. The best exercise a company could give to candidates is a Take home assessment, with no time constraints, access to online resources, and just test that they understand what they've built.
07:34 - As an employer, you're there to explore the personality of the person through the interview and not make them suffer during that process.
09:30 - Getting ready for an interview - Don't take the cultural part of the interview for granted, express your thoughts as much as possible. Focus also on what you think you'll be a good fit at, it's also a moment for you to interview them.
