How TriAx Geogrid Works: Bearing Capacity Improvement

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers defined the primary applications of geogrid stabilization for paved and unpaved structures: lateral restraint, improved bearing capacity, and tensioned membrane effect. This video demonstrates the mechanism of bearing capacity improvement through this sand box experiment using with Tensar TriAx Geogrid.

The use of soft foam creates a weak subgrade condition in both boxes. The first box has no geogrid stabilization while the second has TriAx Geogrid placed inside. Note how the participant's weight is not supported in the unstabilized condition yet his weight is fully distributed by the TriAx product in the second box.

Tensar has developed online resource centers so that engineers and contractors can learn how to build more efficiently using TriAx Geogrid technology. Here you'll find free design tools, webinars, project profiles and more. Click the links below to get started.
