I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch) THE FOUR TOPS

It was with this song that The Four Tops first broke into the UK charts, this one peaking at #23 in 1965. The competition at the time was fierce: The Byrds were at #1 with Mr Tambourine Man, The Fortunes had their "troubles" at #3, The Ivy League were "tossing and turning" at #4, The Beatles had just entered the charts at #5 with "Help!" and The Animals, The Hollies and Dusty were all packed into the Top10. But this one struck a chord with the British - probably because the writers of the song (Holland-Dozier-Holland) used exactly the same chord progression as they had with The Supremes' hit, "Where Did Our Love Go".
