ASI 2600MC Duo - Narrowband Tests & Tutorial
The ASI 2600MC Duo is an interesting new camera that incorporates both an auto-guider sensor and traditional CMOS sensor into one camera body. That means you no longer need to worry about a separate OAG or auto-guider!
In this video I'll show my tests of the 2600MC Duo over the span of 3 nights. Based on my experience so far, I'm very impressed by the auto-guider in this camera. I did not expect to see any stars (let alone get good guiding!) considering my telescope has an f/7.5 aperture and I'm using an Optolong L-Enhance filter.
Despite these challenges, the 2600MC Duo was able to maintain a total guiding error below 1 arc-second for most of my testing! Once I figured out the quirks with the Askar V, the guide settings in the ASIAir, and focusing the auto-guider sensor, I was able to keep the Total Error around 0.6 - 0.8 for upwards of 5 hours per night. This is very impressive!
I still need to perform some more tests with different Askar V configurations, but as of right now I'm very happy with this camera.
For those who are shooting 1000mm+, or if you think you may one day purchase a larger telescope, then the ASI 2600MC Duo may be a smart long-term investment. You'll no longer need to worry about an OAG or large guide scope, which should make things much simpler.
