"This book was a literal lifesaver. I’d been struggling to help my teenage daughter with her depression, trying everything from social workers to psychiatrists to spiritual healing. Her age (13) made it hard to tell what was just teen angst and what was clinical depression. Every resource I’ve tried has helped a little, in one area, but reading this book (since she wasn’t up to reading it herself) helped me connect all the dots and gave me a more holistic understanding of what’s going on with her - in particular the section on the physiology of stress and anxiety. It was a huge Aha! moment for me to read about what’s been going on in her brain as a response to stress. I was able to convey the information easily, thanks to how conversationally the book was written.
