US Virgin Island Capital is Charlotte Amalie. It is named after queen of Denmark-Norway
It has a deep-water harbor that was once a haven for pirates and is now one of the busiest ports of call for cruise ships in the Caribbean it covers an area of 2 square kilometers and the population is just over 1,000.
Hagåtña is the second smallest of the island's 19 villages in both area and population. However, it remains one of the island's major commercial districts in addition to being the seat of government.
History
The U.S. Virgin Islands were originally inhabited by the Ciboney and Arawaks people as far back as 3000 years ago, then Kalinago people came to the islands in the 14 century.
Christopher Columbus discovered the Virgin Islands argapalago on his second voyage in 1493. The Spanish settlement stated in 1555. English and French settlers arrived on St. Croix from 1625. Danish arrived and settled on St. Thomas in 1672 and St. John in 1694
Later Danish purchased St. Croix from France in 1733. The islands became Danish colonies in 1754.
The island became sugar plantations. Slaves from Africa were brought to drive the islands economy during the 18th and early 19th centuries. During the 18th centuries, a sizable Jewish community also settled on the islands.
In the late 19th century, plantations no longer profitable due to slave rebalance. Danish abandon their estates and went back to Denmark
US thought that the Island might be used as a submarine base by German in WW I and negotiated a deal with Denmark and purchase the islands for 25 Million dollars at the time and closer to 600 million in current value. The 1936 Organic Act paved way for establishing a local government.
In 1970, Virgin Islanders elected their first governor to represent them in US Congress.

US Virgin Island culture is perfect mix of Caribbean and American. English is the dominant language.
Government and Politics
The U.S. Virgin Islands are an organized, unincorporated United States territory; as such, the residents born in the island are US citizens. Similar to other territory, they can’t vote for their president however similar to other territories they can vote for the presidential primaries.
U.S. Virgin Islands elect a delegate to represent them in Congress. The elected delegate is able to vote in committee only.
The U.S. Virgin Islands elect a territorial governor every four years as the leader of local government. They also elect fifteen senators for two-year terms to serve in the Legislature.
The U.S. Virgin Islands have a District Court, Superior Court and the Supreme Court. The District Court is responsible for federal law, while the Superior Court is responsible for U.S. Virgin Islands law and the Supreme Court is responsible for appeals from the Superior Court.

Other industries such as watch assembly, rum distilling, construction, pharmaceuticals, and electronics
The agriculture sector is very small. 80% employment is in service, 19% in industry/manufacturing
Hurricanes Irma and Maria caused extensive damage to the island and it is expected cost over 7 billion to rebuild island.
