Military band of the People's Liberation Army of China was established in 1947. From1952 band is based in Beijing. Now band includes three orchestras: symphonic, brass band, the team of teachers of wind music and music studio.

For over 60 years the band acts as a ceremonial musical band of China at the state level. During this time the band played in front of more than a thousand leaders visited China armed forces, the Heads of State and Government from almost two hundred countries.

The band participated in more than seven thousand most important state events, including major national holidays (National Day of the People's Republic of China, and many others). Band playing in the ceremony of celebrate the restoration of Chinese sovereignty over Xianggang (Hong Kong) and Aomin (Macau), at the Summer Olympics – 2010 in Beijing, during the World's Fair – 2010 in Shanghai (Expo 2010) and many others.

The Band of the People's Liberation Army performs an annual concert programs for the member of the services in China and they regularly invited to perform concerts in different provinces and regions of the country: the band has played in more than six thousand concerts in a variety of formats.

The Band of the People's Liberation Army toured France, Germany, Great Britain, Australia, USA, Russia and dozens of other countries and regions of the world. The band always honoring widely recognized. As for today the PLA military band – the main band of the brass music of China, which are equal to all the other bands of the country.

Conductor Major Wang Dengmei

Wang Dengmei, born in 1982, is a conductor in the Military Band of the PLA of China. He was admitted to the Department of Conducting of Central Conservatory of Music in China in 2001. His tutor is Prof. Yu Feng, a renowned conductor in China. In 2005, Wang won the first prize in the Asian qualifying contest of France Concours International de Jeunes Chefs d’Orchestre. After five years’ study, he graduated and was enrolled to the PLA Military Band for his great achievements in his major. Since then, he has been permanent conductor of the Band and has fulfilled such important tasks as 2008 Olympic Games, 2009 military parade of the 60th anniversary of National Day, 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and so on. In Shanghai World Expo, he had consecutively completed over 180 missions and memorized the scores of over 160 national anthems. His routine job is to conduct the band in such occasions as welcome ceremonies for foreign leaders’ state visit and banquets, welcoming ceremonies for foreign military delegates’ visit, and various music concerts.

Guards of Honor

Guards of Honor of PLA are representative by the ground, naval and air force. The Guards participated in the ceremonies accompanying foreign heads of state, government, military leaders and other special public events.

Since the Guards foundation, unit was involved in the most important historical events of the People's Republic of China and the Communist Party of China. Guards honor shows the modern image of the PLA for all foreign guests. Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China was awarded the unit the title of “tszyunlyuy byaobin”, it means that unit is a model of military bearing and drill in the PLA.

In February of 2014 by the decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in the Guards of Honor unit was created specials Women's Battalion. The average increase of women in women’s battalion – 178 cm, the average age – 18 years. In May 2014 representatives of the women's battalion in first time took part in the national ceremony and immediately attracted the attention of media all around the world. For the first time of 62-year history of the PLA in the unit of Guards of Honor were women.

These changes demonstrate the modern approach to the organization of the PLA, promote the prestige of China and help to successfully develop relations with other countries.

Senior Colonel Li Bentao

Lee Bentao is the unit commander of the Guards of Honor of PLA which representative by the ground, naval and air force of the PLA.

Lee Bentao participated in:
– The opening ceremony of the Asian Games in 1990;
– He led the Guards of Honor at a ceremony of the restoration of the sovereignty of China in Hong Kong (1997) and Macao (1999);
– During the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, he has been the standard-bearer of China. He raised the national flag, the flag of the Olympic Games and the Paralympics flag;
