The Day of the African Child (DAC) is commemorated annually on June 16. Established in 1991, it honors the hundreds of students massacred during the 1976 Soweto uprising in South Africa. The day will be observed under the theme is "Ensuring universal access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) for every child in Africa."
