Mentre è ancora in corso la guerra di secessione, Clayton, un cowboy, si reca da un suo caro e vecchio amico per comprargli la fattoria. Costui, vedendo che la transazione sarebbe stata regolata con denaro sudista, nel rendergli noto che la moneta è fuori corso, gli concede un diritto di opzione. Intanto la sorella di Clayton viene uccisa da due fuorilegge e, mentre egli ritorna all'albergo in cui l'aveva lasciata, apprende la triste notizia. Messosi alla ricerca dei due giunge in un ranch, dove due ragazze schiave e serve di un gruppo di banditi gli danno ospitalità e gli indicano inoltre quali sono gli assassini. In seguito una delle donne ascolta la conversazione che il capo ha con alcuni suoi uomini: egli, fornitore di armi all'esercito sudista, ha investito tutto il patrimonio nell'ultimo carico. Ma un imprevisto incontro fra due alti ufficiali, nordista e sudista, per trattare la pace, mette in pericolo tutto l'affare

While the Civil War is still going on, Clayton, a cowboy, goes to a dear old friend to buy him the farm. He, seeing that the transaction would be settled with money from the South, in making it known that the currency is off course, grants him an option right. Meanwhile, Clayton's sister is killed by two outlaws and, as he returns to the hotel where he left her, he learns the sad news. Having come in search of the two, he arrives at a ranch, where two slave girls, servants of a group of bandits give him hospitality and also tell him who the killers are. Later, one of the women overheard the conversation the boss had with some of his men: he, a supplier of weapons to the Southern army, invested all the assets in the last load. But an unexpected encounter between two senior officers, a northerner and a southerner, to deal with peace, endangers the whole affair...
