My Addiction | My Most Uncomfortable Video Yet
This was an uncomfortable video for me to make but I feel a need to bring this topic to light because porn is a gazillion dollar industry so that means there are millions of people becoming to addicted to this new drug.
I found porn at the age of 15 on the internet when I downloaded a video in an AOL chatroom and watched it over and over. Being exposed to it at a young age has directly affected the way I have approached relationships and treated woman.
Now, at 32, I took responsibility, sought help and have been porn free for the past year. In this video I share what got me to to kick the habit and start living a life I was proud of.
1) Therapy - I've been seeing a counselor weekly. I'm a 100% honest and open with him, as I believe this is the only way therapy works. Every session, I lay it all out the table. With his help, I've discovered my triggers (stress, boredom, isolation) and have the tools necessary to prevent acting out.
2) Covenant Eyes - A mostly subscription service. You set an accountability partner who is sent a your activity log. Mature content gets flagged and it opens up the conversation. Again, addiction is about transparency. Addicts are expert liars and the minute you air out your struggles, your setbacks, and whats really going on is when the secretive nature of this disease is lifted and the power is taken away. Like mold, this addiction festers and grows when not exposed to light.
3) Support Group - That could be a 12 step program, a meet up, or online forum/community. Reach out & ask for help. You CANNOT do this alone. There are people just like you, often worse, that have a wealth of knowledge and experience who can and want to help you win this fight.
