सर्दी के मौसम में किडनी रोगी के लिए पानी की सही मात्रा | Water Intake for Kidney Patients in Winters

Water intake plays a very important role in the health of kidney failure patients, especially during winter. Drinking too little water can reduce urine output and increase creatinine levels, while excess water can cause swelling and fluid accumulation in the lungs. Maintaining the right balance is essential for keeping the body stable. In this video, Dr Puru Dhawan explains how kidney patients should manage water intake wisely in cold weather.

When kidneys stop functioning properly, they are unable to remove extra water, sodium, potassium, creatinine, and urea from the body. As a result, waste materials and fluid start accumulating in the body. Proper water management helps support urine formation and prevents sudden rises in creatinine and urea levels.

The body naturally indicates its water requirement through thirst, dry mouth, and dry lips. Kidney failure patients experience similar signals and should pay close attention to them. Instead of drinking large amounts at once, water intake should be slow, measured, and based on how the body responds.

If a patient has no swelling, normal urine output, and creatinine levels around 4–6, they can take about 100 ml of water at one time. After one cup, a gap of at least 15–20 minutes should be maintained before the next intake. This method helps the body process water effectively without overloading the kidneys.

For patients with swelling, fluid retention, or those on dialysis, water intake needs to be further restricted. In such cases, about 50 ml of water at one time is advised, with proper time gaps between servings. This approach helps reduce swelling while allowing the body to process fluids gradually.
