After Brexit, a Federal UK?
In this video Dr. Andrew Blick of the Federal Trust comments on the emerging debate about a more federalised United Kingdom. He argues that the nature of federalism has often been misunderstood in the UK because of the confused and confusing debate surrounding a European “federal superstate.” A growing number of British politicians are however now coming to believe that a federalised United Kingdom might provide the best chance of reinforcing the UK’s internal cohesion. Dr. Blick welcomes this development, but warns that further discussion and reflection will be necessary on such thorny issues for a federal UK as Westminster sovereignty, the absence of a written British constitution and the size of England relative to the rest of the United Kingdom.
