Understanding the Internalized Mother for Healing Attachment Wounds
New Update: Announcing the Four Attachment Distress Responses Quiz and Course
https://www.alanrobarge.com/adrquiz
Many of us want to know how to heal, how to change, how to be more secure, etc. This is why I created the course: The Four Attachment Distress Responses. You're invited to take the quiz and learn about your Response.
Many of our behaviors in relationships are habitual - meaning we act out of autopilot. Our autopilot Response comes from past conditioning of negative experiences. When attachment injuries go unaddressed, we become insecure in our relationships.
The Four Attachment Distress Responses Course describes each specific type of guardedness, which means how we try to protect ourselves from getting hurt again while attempting to get our attachment needs met.
While we cannot change the past, we can change how we respond in the moment and in the future. This course offers you insights and tools as new ways to respond in your relationships. The Four Responses are Poking, Running, Hiding, and Submitting.

Understanding the Internalized Mother for Healing Attachment Wounds
In this video, I talk about the psychological construct of the mother introject and how making the distinction between the literal, physical, real-world mother and the internalized, composite of memory as the psychic mother helps us when trying to heal attachment wounds from the past.
It's very possible that those two frameworks of understanding have different relationships associated with them, meaning who your mother is today (if still living) is not who you remember her to be or the person you interact with when internally pursuing healing of attachment wounds. Sometimes our healing work is more about making peace with our own internalized sense of mother and not necessarily the literal person.
This video also acknowledges the aspects of one's own mother qualities with regards to self-parenting (regardless of gender), as well as being aware of the archetypal mother as a universal image and psychic presence. Sometimes, we have to transcend the personal and tap into the bigger aspects of the mother's qualities in order to heal the mother-child wound. This is more about how the world-at-large is our mother or life itself is the great mother that cradles us, etc.
