St. Petersburg suffered significant amount of damage from World War II. The Siege of Leningrad (St. Petersburg) lasted from September 8, 1941–January 27, 1944. It was a city in the Soviet Union and was attacked by the German and Finnish armed forces during World War II. The siege lasted 872 days.
