Ukraine rejects Russia's demand to surrender Mariupol in exchange for safe passage
Russia has escalated its bombardment of the Ukrainian capital, shelling a residential neighbourhood and a shopping centre in Kyiv. Security camera footage showed a massive explosion and a mushroom cloud, followed by a series of smaller blasts. At least six people have been killed. A new curfew is in place. Ukraine has also rebuffed Russia's offer to surrender the port city of Mariupol in exchange for a safe passage for civilians. Hundreds of thousands are still trapped in Mariupol, with dwindling supplies.
