I love that the natural hair movement hit the U.S. with a vengeance because it was the movement that made me even consider returning to my natural hair in the first place. There is one aspect of the movement that I have been less excited about and it is the consumerism aspect. It seems that people are less concerned with loving and getting acquainted with their natural and more so concerned with buying products in the hopes of making their natural hair do something they saw on YouTube, TV, etc. I think the amount of money we spend on products is to our detriment and is really hurting our wallets and impeding our ability to accept ourselves as we naturally are. I am not completely against using products but I am against the mindless consumerism and the birth of the "product junkie."
