1993年BXの後継車としてデビュー。イタリアのカロッツェリアであるベルトーネによるデザインはGSより続いていたシルエットから一新され、後輪のハーフスカートも廃止された。
内装ではスピードメーター、ステアリングの形状などが一般的なものとなった。
1994年後半に最初のマイナーチェンジが行われ、外観上ではボンネット上にあったダブルシェブロンマークがフロントグリルに移され、ブレークも登場した。
エアバッグ、ABS、タイヤ・ホイールの15インチ化、油圧ハイプレッシャーポンプの仕様変更、アンチシンク機能の追加等、大幅な機構追加や変更が行われた。
1998ccの排気量から最高出力 123ps/5750rpm、最大トルク 18.3kg・m/2750rpmを発揮した。
