Resistance or Discord: Motivating Unhappy Clients

Spring 2013 Public Child Welfare Dialogue

Melinda (Mindy) Hohman, Ph.D., is Professor at the School of Social Work, San Diego State University, San Diego. Dr. Hohman teaches courses in substance abuse treatment, research, Motivational Interviewing, and social work practice. She has been a trainer in Motivational Interviewing (MI) since 1999, training community social work-ers, Child Protection workers, probation officers, and addiction counselors across Southern California. She is the author of the book, Motivational Interviewing in Social Work Practice.

The Public Child Welfare Training Program operates with federal funds made available through Title IV-E of the Social Security Act, which provides specified financial support for students committed to a career in public child welfare.
