A Dutch Post-Impressionist painter whose work had a timeless influence on 20th century painting. Over the course of more than a decade, he created more than 2,100 works, including some 860 oil paintings. These include portraits, self-portraits, landscapes and still lifes, depicting olive trees, cypresses, fields of wheat and sunflowers. Most critics overlooked Van Gogh until his suicide at the age of 37, preceded by years of anxiety, poverty, and disturbed sanity.
