BLENDER & SUBSTANCE PAINTER: TOOL CHEST TEXTURING
I am providing the TOOL CHEST blend file if you want to unwrap and texture this along with me.

In this video, I use SMART UV PROJECT and the UDIM method (multiple UV tiles) and then I texture the tool chest main body and lock in SUBSTANCE PAINTER. In the next video, I will finish the texturing by adding stickers.
Recall that in a previous video I did a comparison of UV unwrapping the tool chest using SMART UV PROJECT vs. MANUAL UNWRAPPING. I felt that Smart UV Project did a pretty decent job. I do want to say here that as I was texturing this in Substance Painter after using Smart UV Project, it was not quite as successful as I would have liked. I did find that seams were poking through where I didn't want them and overall, I felt like I had less control of the texturing process than I would have with a manual unwrap. This is, however, quite dependent upon the type of materials that are being used. For example, throwing on a smart material after Smart UV Project often is very hit-or-miss and frequently gives bad results. Yes, I could spend time painting out some of the seams, covering them etc. And really, you should do some painting of your textures. I didn't do any painting here, just applying the materials and tweaking settings. I suppose in the final analysis, I would probably settle for Smart UV Project if I wasn't too concerned about the results, ie. if I wasn't being overly picky and if I was prepared to do some touch-up where necessary.
With all that said, this is the main texturing video for the tool chest and the stickers are coming in the next video. Following that, I will move on to working on the PIPE WRENCH which I already modeled and will need to unwrap and then texture. Both of these models, the tool chest and the pipe wrench, are being made for BLENDER CHALLENGE: TOOLS which is currently underway on my discord (see link below).
And one more thing, as with all my modeling/texturing videos, I may go back and tweak the results. I don't always get what I really want when I'm doing this on camera. It's very much like in the music business when a mixing engineer mixes the tracks for a song or album and then steps away for a break and comes back to listen to what he or she has done with "fresh" ears. Or when you listen to a mix on various speakers ... in the studio, in the car, on a portable device. You have to get away from it for a bit and come back fresh so that you are able to realize "the bass is too muddy" or "the grunge map is too intense". So yeah, I might make some changes :)
Thank you for watching and take care.
