The strange code morphing CPU inside the Sony VAIO U1
In the year 2000, a small company called Transmeta Corporation released a CPU that challenged Intel's Pentium. This new CPU was called Crusoe and emulated x86 CPUs by 'code morphing'. The Sony VAIO U1 was one of a handful of computers that contained this radical new design in CPU technology. One advantage of the Crusoe was it's extreme low power efficient operation. Giving it an advantage in very small computers while providing very long run time on batteries.
