Uncovering the History of North Carolina's Free People of Color: A Journey into the Archives
“Uncovering the History of North Carolina's Free People of Color: A Journey into the Archives,” a virtual program recorded on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. The Friends of the Archives’ annual meeting provided brief organizational updates. Afterwards, Professor Warren Eugene Milteer, Jr. of UNC-Greensboro answered questions, moderated by Joe Beatty of the Office of Archives & History, about his book, North Carolina's Free People of Color, 1715-1885 (LSU Press, 2020). The discussion included sources Milteer found the most useful, his research challenges, and his insights into the unique status of an important segment of North Carolina’s population.
