Brit Marling Georgetown University Senior Convocation Speech 2013

Netflix's The OA creator Brit Marling, whom I respect, love, and adore, delivers one of the most inspiring speeches I have ever heard at a graduation ceremony. She touches on the importance of friendship, perseverance, and making your own destiny.

One of my favorite quotes...

"When we were all at our wits end with this journey, when I had stopped talking to my parents, because I could no longer explain to them what I was doing out there, losing myself, losing my life, living in this collective fantasy, encouraged only by each other to keep going. Finally, we all stopped trying to break in. I stopped auditioning, we all started writing. We decided that we didn't need to wait for permission or validation to make our work. That all we had to do is go back to making films the way we made them at Georgetown. When security guards from the National Gallery had chased us around the mall."

Original Description From Source:

Actress and filmmaker Brit Marling (C’05) told the Class of 2013 to maintain the friendships and relationships they cultivated during their undergraduate career as they enter the next stage of the lives.
