Zamboni driver turned goalie talks to media after Carolina Hurricanes win

Emergency goaltender David Ayres talks to reporters after he helped the Carolina Hurricanes defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3 Saturday. Ayres became the first emergency backup goalie to ever win a game in NHL history. Gov. Roy Cooper named Ayres an honorary citizen of the North Carolina, praising the 42-year-old Zamboni driver’s resiliency. Ayres is a kidney transplant survivor from Canada and a full-time employee of the Toronto Marlies AHL organization.
