9. Creepy Carcass

Whale sharks are the world’s largest shark species, but that’s not their only special quality. According to a study published in the journal of PLOS One in June of this year, the gigantic fish have teeth covering their eyes. Formally called “dermal denticles,” they are used for “abrasion resistance” -- in other words, to protect the animal’s eye from the elements, like armor.
