US Route 1 Road Trip, Part 1: Rural Maine - Fort Kent to Portland

Road trip along historic US Route 1, commencing in Fort Kent, Maine and culminating in Key West, Florida. The journey spanned 14 states in 14 days.

Part 1 begins at a monument in Fort Kent, dedicated to the "first mile" of US Route 1, a milestone. It represents the official the northern terminus of the highway. From Fort Kent, Route 1 meanders along the St. John River, the water boundary between Maine and New Brunswick, Canada, before veering southward. As the highway snakes along the Atlantic coastline, it encounters a bevy of small, idyllic towns and picturesque vistas.

This leg represents two days of travel, separated by the black fadeout midway through the video.
