Paola Tapia: Santiago de Chile, addressing territorial equity through e-mobility in public transport

Paola Tapia Salas, Director Metropolitan Public Transport, Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of Chile featured the VideSpotlight "Electrification of bus fleets in the Americas", broadcasted on 27th June.

"In Santiago, Chile, we have a very important challenge ahead, which is to continue advancing in electromobility. In the year 2017, six years ago, we introduced the first electric buses in Latin America. Now, six years after that experience, we can proudly say that Santiago de Chile is the city with the highest number of electric buses outside of China. We need to keep moving forward: we have more than 6,000 buses in the system, and over 4,000 of them are already Euro 6 or electric. Therefore, the challenge today is to continue generating not only a larger fleet but also the necessary tools to better plan our routes and to achieve better territorial equity through electromobility. Territorial equity is very important because there are areas that are more remote, further away, and they have seen that e-mobility is far from their day-to-day lives. Therefore, as a government in this administration, we seek to reach with capillarity so that many and many are the ones who benefit from the advantages of zero polluting emissions, zero noise, and also very importantly, contribute to the decrease of CO2 against climate change"
