Avram Gonzales: What's the difference between Google local service ads, Google ads, and organic search? I'm gonna go over where these placements exist on a traditional Google search. I'm gonna go over some of the advantages and disadvantages of each, and then round things out with a recommendation for where I would start if I were a plumbing or HVAC company. All right, so let's just jump right in.

Here is a search result for HVAC repair. And this is my backyard here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. And where each of these ads exist is right here on this page. On the very top, you have Google local service ads. That's what's popping up here in the first result. This used to be called Google Guaranteed. They discontinued the use of that name in October 2025. Now it's just Google local service ads. And as you can see, it pops up here at the top of the screen. This is a great placement. It's the first place that people can actually see when they hit a search result. Moving down, and we'll come back to these and talk about the advantages and disadvantages of each. Next, we have this section that says sponsored results. This is what's Google ads. When people have referred to pay-per-click advertising or Google pay-per-click, this is usually what they meant. This is the original Google ad. This existed long before local service ads ever came out. And you can see that those results pop up next just after local service ads. If we continue down the screen, then we see the beginning of the organic search results. That includes both the Google Maps that you see right here. And then if you scroll down, you see the rest of the different websites that pop up in traditional organic search results. And this is when people say the top 10 or the first page of Google, they often mean these results right here. As you scroll down, at the very bottom of the page, you'll see some more Google ads. And in some cases, you'll see as well some local service ads. But typically you see that stuff at the top. Every search result is a little bit different and Google's always testing things and playing with it.

So let's talk about the advantages and the disadvantages of each of these. We'll start from the top and work our way back down. With Google local service ads, one of the advantages, of course, is it's first, it's here at the top, and people trust it. And they trust it because they can see the reviews that are tied to your Google business profile. They can also go directly to you. They can give you a call.
