Extreme light for the production of clean and abundant nuclear energy | Gérard MOUROU | TEDxSaclay

Our society today faces an immense existential problem. 84% of our energy is of fossil origin. This may cause irreversible catastrophic climate change and pollution responsible for one among six deaths.
Extreme light applied to nuclear energy could open a new path to energy production. It could activate materials such as thorium or boron allowing abundant energy production free of waste and toxic radiation.
Gérard Albert Mourou is a French physicist who has done many researchs in the domains of electric fields and lasers. He is the co-inventor of a laser amplification technique universally used today and for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2018. This invention will allow him to create refractive femtosecond surgery of the eye and cataract used on more than one million patients per year. He is a member of the High College of the Ecole Polytechnique. Gérard Albert Mourou is a French physicist who has done many researchs in the domains of electric fields and lasers.
