Francois langurs explore Primate Canopy Trails at Saint Louis Zoo

The Saint Louis Zoo Primate Care Team takes a look at the animals as they first discover their new outdoor home at Primate Canopy Trails, which opens to Zoo guests on Monday, July 12.

The Francois langurs, native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, are nimble climbers and great long jumpers. The new habitat was built with this in mind and includes many enriching opportunities for exploring, such as trees, man-made vines to swing from, and places to rest.

Primate Care Team: “Deshi is our male Francois langur and easily the most energetic and active of his group. When he entered the new habitat, he immediately started leaping between tunnels, trees, and the steel structures, making his caretakers a bit nervous! But all of his natural abilities kicked in, and he was navigating like a pro in no time. Our female Francois langurs Dolly and Sydney and the spectacled langur Marc explored their new surroundings a little more slowly than Deshi’s immediate leaping and bouncing style.”
