How bad is it in AUSTRALIA?

In this long-form conversation, I sit down with NSW MLC John Ruddick to discuss some of the biggest questions facing Australia today.

We explore why history matters, why so many Australians feel disconnected from the nation that previous generations built, and why understanding our past may be the key to navigating our future.

We discuss John’s excellent YouTube series, Political History of Australia, which traces the story of our nation from its earliest foundations through to the modern political era. It’s a reminder that countries are not accidents. They are shaped by ideas, institutions, culture, leadership and the sacrifices of those who came before us.

We also tackle one of the most controversial issues in modern politics: abortion. Why does it continue to matter? Why do some politicians avoid discussing it? And what does the debate reveal about our values, our laws and our understanding of human life?

Most importantly, we discuss what Australia is becoming, what we’ve lost, what we’ve preserved and whether the next generation will inherit a country they recognise.
