British banker Rurik Jutting charged with murders of two women in Hong Kong

A 29-year-old British banker, Rurik Jutting, was charged with two counts of murder in Hong Kong on Monday after police found the bodies of two women in his apartment.

Police said Jutting called them to his apartment early Saturday in an upscale building in the city’s Wan Chai district. There, officials found the bodies of two women, one of whom was stuffed in a suitcase with injuries to her neck. The woman, who was killed on Oct. 27, has been identified was Ningsih Sumathi.

Another victim found in the apartment has not been named, but the BBC reports she was locally known as Jesse. She sustained injuries to her neck and buttock and died Saturday.

Until recently, Jutting had been a Hong Kong-based employee of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.

Jutting did not seek bail during the court hearing and is remanded until Nov. 10.
