Anwar arrives in Peru for first official visit to South America

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived safely in Lima at 11.15pm local time on Tuesday, marking the beginning of his first official visit to South America.

He was greeted by Malaysia's Ambassador to Peru, Ahmad Irham Ikmal Hisham upon arrival via a special flight at the Military Air Base Group No.8, Aeronaves, in Peru.

Accompanying him on the same flight from Cairo, Egypt, were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Anwar was given a military salute by the Peruvian army before heading to his hotel for preliminary meetings.

His four-day visit to Peru includes the 31st Apec Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM).
