Exclusive Clip: Dinosaur 13

A simple account of the discovery of the most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil ever, Todd Douglas Miller’s documentary soon develops into a saga of persecution by overzealous government officials and an arguably corrupt legal system.

In 1990, Susan Hendrickson, part of a team at the Black Hills Institute in South Dakota, discovered the bones of the huge T. Rex that would be named after her. But once ‘Sue’ had been painstakingly removed and restoration had begun, the FBI and the National Guard seized it and prosecuted the BHI’s Neal and Peter Larson.

The complex legal process eventually led to Peter’s imprisonment, and the giant fossil was auctioned for $7.6m. Using amateur and TV news footage, plus extensive, often moving interviews with those involved, DINOSAUR 13 is an unexpectedly gripping David vs Goliath tale.
