THE PACIFIC WAY - Season 9 Episode 16

In January 2009, major river systems on the two main islands of Fiji broke their banks and caused overwhelming devastation to families, land, and infrastructure.
Overall damage was estimated in excess of fifty million Fiji Dollars, with the agriculture sector worst hit.
Our first story looks at life on farms after the floods and Australia’s rehabilitation assistance.

Then to Reddy Farms a Fijian company specialising in the breeding and supply of ducks for sale to local restaurants, supermarkets and hotels.
In 2004, the business trialled the importation of Pekin ducks from New Zealand to test the market demand.
Results were promising but costs were too high – a challenge that Reddy Farm’s was able to overcome with support from Australian Aid’s Enterprise Challenge Fund.
