Saudi, US, German & NATO Leaders Speak On "Securing An Insecure World" As Davos Kicks Off Amid War

Global political and business elites gather once again in Davos, the Swiss ski resort hosting the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum. Expected attendees include US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and French President Emmanuel Macron, alongside thousands of business leaders. The meeting faces a tense and complex backdrop, with discussions on ending wars in Ukraine and Gaza taking center stage.

There is anticipation regarding a potential meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Chinese Premier Li Qiang during the event. Despite uncertainties, Ukraine's presidential chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, remains hopeful, stating that the final schedule of meetings is yet to be confirmed.

In addressing the Gaza situation, Blinken aims to bring together key players, including Israel’s President and leaders from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, countries that have emerged as powerbrokers in the region. These diplomatic efforts overshadow the usual economic themes at Davos, where discussions also touch upon the future of interest rates and the world's growing debt.

Argentina’s new president, Javier Milei, makes a keenly awaited debut, having been voted in on a promise of sweeping economic reforms. Notably absent this time is former US President Donald Trump, who, in previous years, was a star attraction. Trump's focus on his re-election bid keeps him away from Davos, and interestingly, he doesn't even merit a mention in the WEF's annual Global Risks Report. However, the possibility of his potential return to power and its consequences remains an unofficial topic of discussion at the forum.
