Feminism as both a concept and practice has received a social stigma in recent years. Listen as Caitlyn Archibald discusses her experiences with negative reactions to feminism from her male peers on college campuses and what she feels we must do to move forward to break this stigma and reinforce ideas of gender equity and respect. Her own experiences inspired this talk on the misperceptions of feminism and what feminism really means in today’s society. Caitlyn Archibald is a freshman at Binghamton University majoring in biochemistry on the pre-med track. Cate Archibald is a freshman at Binghamton University double-majoring in biochemistry and history on the pre-med track. She is a part of the Binghamton University Scholars Program and joined club rugby among many other clubs during her first semester. She spends her free time crocheting, reading, and trying to keep her many dorm room plants alive. Cate’s favorite Ted Talks are “The Hidden Opponent” by Victoria Garrick and “We Should All Be Feminists” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. She is very excited to give her own talk, and is looking forward to learning many things from this experience.
