Mk. 4 Volkswagen Jetta Windshield And Wiper Replacement - Part 2
Hey everyone,
part 2 of this video covers the cleaning of the ground under the cowl, the installation of the cowl, and the installation of the wiper blades thereby completing this particular repair. Finishing this project also allowed Greg to get this Mk.4 Volkswagen Jetta safetied and approved for road use, which he now uses as his daily driver, taking over for a Mk. 2 Jetta that we'll likely feature in some future videos (not the same one that we featured in a cold start video earlier this year).
As Greg mentions in the video, the biggest thing to be mindful of is to not apply excessive force when reinstalling the cowl, you'll more than likely crack the windshield, which means you'll be removing the cowl again. The other important thing to be mindful of is to make sure you line the splines up between the mechanism and the wiper arms. Like mentioned in the video, if you screw that up, you'll be buying new wiper arms most likely and potentially a new mechanism mount if you ruin the splines on that part as well. Unlike some of our other videos where you don't have to pay too much attention to what you're doing, this job requires being very mindful. We also include a little addendum at the end about tires and how to determine how old they are if you're buying a used set.
The torque spec for the wiper bolts are 11 ft-lbs, or 132 inch-pounds.
Next week we continue with another Jetta video (Also applicable to the 4 door Golf) documenting the installation of the OEM roof rack kit. And we'll also be introducing yet another project!
We will have more technical details on the video at our website at some point in the future. Greg, the assigned author for this article, is busy with work and filming multiple GB Productions videos for later this year.
