DP World Tour winner Billy Horschel has worked closely with renowned statistician Mark Horton for over a decade, using data to inform his course decisions and strategy. Their smart partnership is responsible for some of Billy’s most successful performances to date.

Horton assists Horschel in examining each golf course that Billy faces on tour and breaking each one down on a granular shot by shot basis; where to miss, scoring holes and how specific holes have been played historically by Tour players over the years.

We sat down with both Billy and Mark ahead of the BMW PGA Championship on the role this type of preparation has played in Billy’s success at the top of the game, and walked several holes with Billy and Mark to see the practical application of smart preparation and the tangible ways in which it can be translated to performance and ultimately success, as they returned to the site of Billy’s victory in 2021.
