आज सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने आवारा कुत्तों से जुड़े मामले में अहम टिप्पणी करते हुए कहा है कि खतरनाक और रेबीज से संक्रमित कुत्तों के मामलों में सार्वजनिक सुरक्षा सर्वोपरि है। कोर्ट ने स्पष्ट किया कि ऐसे मामलों में तय कानूनी प्रक्रिया के तहत अंतिम विकल्प के रूप में यूथेनेशिया यानी दया मृत्यु जैसे कदम पर भी विचार किया जा सकता है, ताकि लोगों की जान की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित हो सके...नागरिकों को गरिमापूर्ण और सुरक्षित जीवन जीने का अधिकार है, जिसमें भयमुक्त वातावरण भी आता है...इसके साथ ही सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने सार्वजनिक स्थानों से आवारा कुत्तों को हटाने के अपने पूर्व निर्देशों को बरकरार रखते हुए इस फैसले के खिलाफ दाखिल सभी याचिकाओं को खारिज कर दिया है...कोर्ट का कहना है कि आवारा कुत्तों के पुनर्वास और नसबंदी पर नवंबर 2025 में दिए गए निर्देश ही लागू होंगे...जो अफसर इनका पालन न करें, उन पर अवमानना का केस चले...अब बड़ा सवाल यही है कि समाधान का रास्ता क्या केवल सख्त कार्रवाई और अंतिम विकल्पों तक सीमित रहेगा, या फिर देश को व्यापक स्तर पर रेबीज नियंत्रण, नसबंदी, शेल्टर सिस्टम और शहरी प्रबंधन को मजबूत करने की दिशा में स्थायी नीति बनानी होगी...

Today, while making significant observations in a case concerning stray dogs, the Supreme Court stated that public safety is paramount in instances involving dangerous and rabies-infected canines. The Court clarified that, in such cases, measures such as euthanasia—or "mercy killing"—may be considered as a last resort, strictly in accordance with established legal procedures, to ensure the safety of human lives. Citizens possess the right to live a life of dignity and safety, which inherently includes an environment free from fear. Furthermore, upholding its previous directives regarding the removal of stray dogs from public spaces, the Supreme Court dismissed all petitions filed challenging this decision. The Court affirmed that the directives issued in November 2025 concerning the rehabilitation and sterilization of stray dogs shall remain in force. It further directed that contempt proceedings be initiated against any official who fails to comply with these orders. The pivotal question now remains: will the path to a solution be confined solely to strict enforcement and extreme measures, or must the nation formulate a sustainable, comprehensive policy aimed at strengthening rabies control, sterilization programs, shelter systems, and urban management on a broader scale?
