Introducing AlwaysOn in Microsoft SQL Server - Part 1

In this video we talk about AlwaysOn. AlwaysOn is a high availability solution available in SQL Server 2012. It can be thought of as a combination of clustering mirroring and replication. AlwaysOn allows DBAs to configure SQL server with multiple replicas that can fail over between themselves. In this video we demonstrate the difference between a typical log shipping and mirroring topology when compared to AlwaysOn. It is important to understand the benefits AlwaysOn provides in comparison with other high availability solutions to appreciate what it can do for you organization. Microsoft is betting heavily on AlwaysOn and expects it to be the industry standard for HA and DR scenarios in the future. A variation of this is already being used to support high availability on the Microsoft cloud. With this video the user would be able to appreciate the differences and similarities of always on with other high availability solutions.
