6. Pakistan's Economic Trajectory, Trends in Inflation, Sectoral Contributions & Population Growth

In this lecture series on Pakistan’s Economic Trajectory: An Era-Wise Overview (1947–2025), we have completed five lectures so far. In the first four lectures, our primary focus remained on the major political, constitutional, and economic developments across different regimes. We also evaluated the economic performance of each regime by examining the average trends in key macroeconomic indicators.
In the previous lecture, our focus shifted from regime-wise averages to a long-term analytical perspective. Specifically, we examined the trends in Gross Domestic Product and Per Capita GDP over an extended period, spanning from 1951–52 to 2024–25.
This is the final lecture of our first module, titled “Pakistan’s Economic Trajectory.” In this session, we will explore the structural transformation of Pakistan’s economy by analyzing the shifts in sectoral contributions to GDP over time. In addition, we will examine the long-term trends in inflation to understand price stability and macroeconomic challenges. Furthermore, we will analyze the trends in population growth, with a particular focus on the rural–urban composition of Pakistan’s population.
With the completion of this module, we will move on to our next module, where we will critically evaluate the performance of Pakistan’s agriculture sector.
