How to avoid the 'roommate phase' with your partner

It’s easy to sit next to each other with Netflix on and phones in hand and call it “quality time.”

But med and vet school doesn’t really leave space for autopilot. So we’ve had to be a lot more intentional, even when we’re totally exhausted.

🧗‍♀️ Weekly climbing (or something we love). Literally anything to be present together.

🚶‍♂️ Post-dinner walks. Sometimes we talk. Sometimes we just shuffle and say “I’m tired” every few steps.

🍝📵 Screen-free dinners. No phones, no TV. Just talking. Or girl dinner if Jacqui’s cooking.

📚🍪 Study sessions side by side. Different subjects, same snacks. No eye contact, just quiet solidarity.

⏰🚫 No studying after 7. Unless it’s exam time, then we lie to ourselves and stretch it to 9.

❤️💬 And if something feels off, we say it. “I miss you” isn’t dramatic, it’s honest. Then we plan something that feels like us again.

Being intentional takes work. But it’s what keeps us close.

What do you do to stay connected when life is busy? We’re always looking for new ideas 👇
