Shirley Bassey - I Will Survive (Includes Pictures from the 2013 Oscars) (2007 Recording)

2007 (Dame Shirley Bassey is a true survivor, and this year she is celebrating 60 Diamond years in the business. Included in this clip are quite a few pictures of Shirley at the 2013 Academy Awards (Oscars), and there are several pictures of her with Barbra Streisand, and Adele.

This classic song from the Disco era was modified with a great upbeat arrangement for Shirley's rendition, and it is a track included on her 2007 CD titled, 'Get The Party Started.' It's very clear that the elder vocalist Dame Shirley is still very ready to get that party started!

ABOUT the CD, Get The Party Started:
Released in June 2007, the album features newly remixed tracks by contemporary producers. The remixes feature recorded vocal tracks previously issued in the 1980s and '90s. "I Will Survive" was recorded in 1996 for the album The Show Must Go On but was not issued at that time. In addition, the album features new recordings including a cover version of Pink's "Get the Party Started", which fronted the 2006 Marks & Spencer Christmas advertising campaign. (This track was used again in 2010 for the opening credits of the spy-spoof movie "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore".) The album project was spearheaded by Bassey and saw her working with songwriting partners Catherine Feeney and Nikki Lamborn, who co-wrote the song, "The Living Tree". The album was released in the UK and Europe on Monday 25 June 2007 without being leaked onto the internet before the release date. It entered the UK Albums Chart at #6, her highest chart position for a studio album since 1970 and since 1978 overall.

Due to the success of the digital download of the single "Get the Party Started" by Chris Cox Get the Party Started was released officially in the United States on 18 March 2008 on the Decca label, making it the first album to be released there by Bassey after a long time absent.

LYRICS:
First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live
without you by my side
But I spent so many nights
thinking how you did me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to carry on
and so you're back
from outer space
I just walked in to find you here
with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed my stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I had known for just one second
you'd be back to bother me

Go on now go walk out the door
just turn around now
'cause you're not welcome anymore
weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
you think I'd crumble
you think I'd lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
and I'll survive
I will survive

It took all the strength I had
not to fall apart
kept trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart
and I spent oh so many nights
just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
Now I hold my head up high
and you see me
somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person
still in love with you
and so you felt like dropping in
and just expect me to be free
now I'm saving all my loving
for someone who's loving me

I will survive
as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
and I'll survive
I will survive
I will survive
I will survive

ABOUT the song, "I Will Survive"
"I Will Survive" is a hit song first performed by American singer Gloria Gaynor, released in October 1978. It was written by Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris. A top-selling song after its initial release, it has remained a popular disco anthem, as well as being certified double platinum by the RIAA.

The song's lyrics describe the narrator's discovery of personal strength following an initially devastating breakup, delivered with increasing confidence and backed by a stirring instrumental accompaniment. It is one of the most famous disco songs of all time and remains Gaynor's biggest hit. It received heavy airplay in 1979, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and on the UK Singles Chart on consecutive weeks. The song is also frequently recalled as a symbol of female strength and as a gay anthem.
