Can a DUI Affect Child Custody?

How bad is a DUI on a parent's record when it comes to custody? It depends on different things such as when that DUI happened, was the person convicted, and what are the terms of the conviction. https://

What were the terms and conditions of the conviction? In other words was their probation that was ordered? Were alcohol classes or an alcohol screening ordered? Was there an ignition interlock device that was ordered?
Was the person who was convicted have they completed all their requirements if there was a conviction have they done that?

The further back in time that a conviction is the less important it becomes. If there was a conviction from 10 or more years ago and there hasn't been any alcohol offenses since then, I don't know how much weight a judge would give that.

It depends on your judge but I feel like a conviction from 10 years ago deserves a lot less weight than a conviction from 10 months ago or a conviction from a year ago or a conviction from 2 years ago. Even with a conviction that is fairly recent if the person who got the conviction is taking steps to remedy the quote issues in their life then I think a judge would sit up and notice.

However, every time a person is taking steps to remedy the issue that does not mean the judge is just going to grant them unfettered access to the to the child or the children. Sometimes people have drug or alcohol issues that date back years. I there's a significant history of abuse a judge is going to look at that. Maybe there is a conviction from ten years ago and there hasn't been anything real recently but there is significant history and it's obvious and there are see things that have happened in the past the judge may want a person to prove themselves to the court.
