Assam Diaries 2023 | Maguri Beel Part 1 | Koliapani Grassland| Birding in Assam

Our journey culminated at Maguri Beel, a paradise for bird enthusiasts. Our first stop was the Koliapani Grassland, a verdant expanse that beckoned with promises of avian treasures. Crossing the mighty Brahmaputra River on fog-laden mornings added an element of mystique to our adventure. As we awaited our boat, the ethereal sight of Bank Swallows darting across the river and the regal presence of Bramnai Shelducks gracing the banks welcomed us.

Navigating the river with caution, we arrived at the Koliapani Grassland, where the symphony of bird calls filled the air. Among the myriad avian wonders, the elusive Chinese Rubythroat greeted us with its melodious chirps, while the Striated Babbler and Swamp Grass Babbler danced among the reeds, teasing our senses. Our main target, the Swamp Grass Babbler, made a cameo appearance, delighting us with its secretive presence.

Amidst the lush grasslands, a stroke of luck led us to the dazzling Golden-headed Cisticola, a species that had evaded our lens on previous occasions. This time, fortune smiled upon us as we captured its vibrant plumage in all its glory. Each sighting added a new layer of excitement, igniting our passion for avifauna.

As our journey drew to a close, a Pied Kingfisher graced us with its aerial prowess, diving into the river in pursuit of its prey. This final spectacle encapsulated the essence of our birding excursion – a harmonious blend of nature's beauty and the thrill of discovery.

Eager for more avian adventures, we set our sights on the next destination, brimming with anticipation for the avian wonders that awaited us.
