Humphreys of Henley TV: Cheddar Gorge

Welcome to Cheddar Gorge in the heart of Somerset. The biggest gorge in the UK at 3 miles long and 400ft deep, it’s seriously impressive. We did the wonderful walk all around the gorge, which took about 3 hours and was just stunning.

Cheddar gorge is the home of cheddar cheese (please watch to find our more) and the oldest human skeleton was discovered in one of the caves in 1903 – it was 10,000 years old.

Cheddar is in the heart of the Mendips, a beautiful area of the country just south of Bath and Bristol which is also home to Glastonbury and Wells, which we’re featuring next week. It’s about 3 hours from London so we recommend staying in one of the beautiful hotels: The stunning new hotel, The Newt is only 45 minutes away or you can choose the truly beautiful Calcot Manor and Whatley Manor in the south of the Cotswolds, just an hour away, or head south into Devon to find the fabulous Gidleigh Park.
